Coastal ride - Costa de la Luz, Oct. 24, to 30, 2010

The adventure of beach rides – Nature, Nature, Nature?

This tour is designed to provide you with an extraordinary experience. Along this route you can discover more of the country and people than an ordinary tourist ever could. You will overnight in small, selected guesthouses with local cuisine, in most cases with the horses. Elli, our ride escort, is a remarkably likable person with excellent knowledge of the nature with its flora and fauna.

The coastal ride begins at our stables and proceeds along the beach towards Tarifa before arriving at the Parque Natural de Estrecho. This is a nature reserve park located directly on the straight with its small bays and cliffs. The ride then continues through herds of cattle, horses and goats and into Europe’s largest cork tree forest, the Parque Alconocales, over los Barios towards Ronda and the most diverse Sierras. Along cattle trails, old smuggling paths and across enormous grazing lands you will experience a constantly changing landscape of broad valleys, soft hills and stony mountains while riding through pines and along cork tree forests or through the white-housed villages of Andalusia. Via Benalup the ride continues on to the Atlantic. Finally, the ride returns along the unique sandy bays of the Costa de la Luz towards Tarifa and ends at our stables.

The adventure and beauty of the nature along this route cannot be fully described in words. Experience an incomparable week that will count among the most memorable in your life.

After, or even before the tour we recommend that you stay some time in Tarifa. Tarifa has a lot to offer, like whale watching, surfing, kiting, mountain-biking, hiking, bathing, a visit to the royal equestrian school in Jerez or an excursion to Tangiers in Morocco, and, and, and… It is our pleasure to inspire you!

Self-lead trail rides

For our self-lead trail rides we have mapped out routes to most beautiful places and nature in the vicinity of Tarifa. You will experience new adventures and wonder at unique flora and fauna each and every day.
Elli, our popular guide, will complement your ride cross-country with a first class knowledge about nature and horses.

A self-lead trail ride is a great alternative if you want to be back in Tarifa in the afternoon in order to enjoy the countless possibilities that Tarifa has to offer or if your partner would like to go windsurfing or kiting during the day.

Our self-lead trail rides begin in the morning at the stables and return there in the afternoon. We ride from our stables along endlessly stretching, sandy bays, as well as to beaches unreachable by road, over donkey trails and through wild fields. You will enjoy the most beautiful beaches and bays of the Costa de la Luz, if not of all Europe. If you wish, you can go swimming with your horse! We ride through various nature reserves with varied landscapes, cork oaks, pine trees and eucalyptus stands, from low hills to stony mountains and along coastal cliffs. We regularly encounter free-roaming horses and cattle herds while experiencing an extraordinary environment filled with a large variety of birds. The view of Africa will provide for new dreams. You will become overwhelmed by the nature.

We visit the cloister grounds of Santuario de la Luz where Ventas, small family-run guesthouses, await you with traditional tapas, hams and wines.
Our routes, whether for half-day or for whole-day rides, offer you a maximum of variety and the opportunity to experience a great deal of Andalusia.

The week will provide you an extraordinary adventure. The pure number of experiences and impressions will give you the feeling of having been with us far longer!

Tours can also be individually planned and are also occasionally adapted to weather conditions as required.

Tarifa is the southernmost point on the European mainland and is located at the narrowest point of the Gibraltar straights. Due to its geographical location, there is an almost constant breeze that provides for a good riding climate. In winter the temperature seldom falls below 16 ° C (61 ° F).

Ride: Tarifa – Ronda 8 days

For many, it is the crown jewel of tours: a six-day ride from the white beaches of Tarifa to the famous Arab city of Ronda in the heart of Andalusia.
A ride into a world of adventure.
The destination, 6 days’ ride away, is a real challenge. You ride through landscape that could not be more beautiful. At the end the breath-taking city of Ronda with the oldest bull-fighting arena in Spain awaits you. On the way, you over-night at especially selected guesthouses with offering a delicious cuisine typical of the region.
The tour is reserved for small groups and is accompanies by Elli, our friendly riding guide.

On your arrival day you get to know your guide and the horses. How about a beach ride as well?
We start on the second day, departing our stables and riding into the natural reserve park Los Alconocales, the largest contiguous corkwood forest in Europe.
We ride via Los Barrios and even deeper into the park towards Castellar de la Frontera.

The trail leads us further into the interior and to charming, whitewashed villages – the “white villages of Andalusia”. As well, the hilltop village of Jimena de la Frontera, a picturesque town. As well, the historical robber hideout of Gaucin and the riverbank village of Benaojan.
The way leads on further along the famed robber trail high over the river Gaudiaro to Ronda, which sits dramatically high over the narrow Guadalvin canyon.
The area’s geography lends the tour a maximum of scenic variety. The entire route, even in summer, leads through a very green region with its corkwood, pine and eucalyptus forests. Olive and citrus groves occasionally border the route. We experience the overpowering beauty of Andalusia, from its hilly grasslands to its rocky landscapes of its various ranges.
Again and again we ride through herds of wild horses, cattle, sheep or goats. Eagles and vulture are our constant companions. For many bird species, the region is an important location to and from the African continent.

On day 7 we arrive in Ronda. That evening and the following morning are available for you to explore Ronda on your own. Then the last bit of fun: the way back by train to San Roque, where we are picked up and brought back to Tarifa. The horses are brought back by van. Now we enjoy your last night in Tarifa and get to know the village’s nightlife.

After the tour, or even before, we recommend you spend some time in Tarifa. The city has a lot to offer, like whale-watching, surfing, kiting, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, a visit to the royal riding school in Jerez, Gibraltar, or even an excursion to Tangiers in Morocco, etc, etc. It’s our pleasure to inspire you!
